An enthusiastic music educator, Roger has taught at many institutions including the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Western Kentucky University, Bellarmine University, Florida State College, Jacksonville, New England Music Camp, Chautauqua Institution and has given master classes at over 20 other schools.  He loves teaching middle and high school bassoonists as well and has taught sectionals for the Louisville Youth Orchestra, the Youth Performing Arts High School of Louisville, and currently is a Practicing Artist at the Denver School of the Arts.

Roger is an active member of the International Double Reed Society and has been a featured performer at 7 annual conferences on both the bassoon and contrabassoon.  He gave the World Premiere of In A Deep Funk by Daniel Dorff at the 1997 conference at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.  As a soloist, he has given concerto performances with the Louisville Orchestra, Oklahoma City Symphony, Symphony in C, Louisville Bach Society, and the Jewish Community Center Orchestra (Louisville).  In 2000, he was a contrabassoon soloist with the Louisville Orchestra on Hell's Angels in its North American Premiere performance. He can be heard on recordings with the Louisville Orchestra on First Edition, Koch, and D'Note labels, the Nashville Symphony on Naxos, and other recordings on Geffen and CRI Compact Discs.

A graduate of Indiana University, Roger studied bassoon with Sidney Rosenberg, Wilbur Simpson, Frank Wangler and Sam Jordan, and contrabassoon with Brad Buckley.

Roger Soren has been married to clarinetist and teacher Angela Soren since 1989 and they have 3 beautiful daughters.
