Erik received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Iowa while studying with Leapold LaFosse. He continued his violin studies with Andres Cardenes at the University of Michigan and with Camilla Wicks at Rice University. Erik has been a member of many orchestras throughout the United States, and has performed in the great concert halls of Europe as Principal Second Violinist of the American Sinfonietta on several international tours.

Erik is dedicated to chamber music performance and community outreach. He frequently visits Denver area public schools to perform for students with the Ivy Street Ensemble, a trio comprised of his wife, flutist Cathy Peterson and violist Phillip Stevens. Erik is also the violinist of the Mendelssohn Trio, a piano trio with pianist Theodor Lichtmann and cellist Barbara Thiem.  His performances are often broadcast on National Public Radio, Colorado Public Radio, and Oregon Public Radio.

Erik maintains a private home teaching studio and has taught at Colorado State University, Rocky Ridge Music Center, for the Denver Young Artists Orchestra and at the Denver School of the Arts, and is frequently engaged to give master classes.  Each June, Erik travels with his family to Oregon to enjoy the Pacific Ocean and the Chintimini Chamber Music Festival, which he founded in 2001. Whether Erik is teaching or appearing as chamber musician, soloist, recitalist, or orchestral musician, he continues to strive to not let his boys get the best of him.
