The Colorado Symphony

Gary Goble

Gary Goble joined the orchestra in the fall of 1976 when Brian Priestman was Music Director. Subscription concerts were Monday and Tuesday nights at the Auditorium Theatre and Wednesday afternoons at Phipps Auditorium at the Denver Museum of Natural History in City Park. Boettcher Concert Hall came later (it opened in March of 1978). On his first day on the job the orchestra rehearsed in Denver and then travelled to Laramie to start a tour of Wyoming.

Gary grew up in Spokane, Washington and went to school at Northwestern University, but that was so long ago that it doesn’t really count.

Gary’s wife, Joanne, is the orchestra’s Music Librarian and also plays bassoon and contrabassoon. For decades they have been renovating their 1890 Victorian home; its location in the Whittier neighborhood makes for a short bicycle ride to work. They also enjoy hiking and biking in the red-rock canyonlands around Moab, Utah every chance they get.

They are looking forward to riding their third Bicycle Tour of Colorado this June (470+ miles in 6 days), on their new DaVinci tandem road bike
