Principal Second Violin

Paul joined the Colorado Symphony in 1984 and has been principal second violin since 1985. He began violin lessons when he was 7 and studyied with Daniel Majeske and David Cerone in high school. He attended Indiana University and the University of Wisconsin, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Laurence Shapiro, and his Masters in Music in 1983, studying with Leonard Sorkin. A top ranking violinist in MTNA Collegiate competition in 1981, he performed complete Paganini Caprices in 1986 in the Denver area. He played in the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, NC from 1994-2005 and has several recordings to his credit. In the summer of 2006 and 2007 he taught at Rocky Ridge Music Camp near Estes Park. He is co-founder of the Colorado Chamber Players, which performs approximately 50 concerts annually in the Denver Metro area. A practitioner and teacher of Iyengar Yoga for many years, he follows a mostly raw food diet. His musical family includes wife Barbara Hamilton, violist and Executive Director of the Colorado Chamber Players and Joshua (1999) and Lily (2002). Joshua is very interested in animation and comics, and Lily has begun harp lessons.
