Tristan Rennie

2nd/Assistant Principal

Tristan Rennie joined the Colorado Symphony as the Second/Assistant Principal Bassoon in 2006. Raised in Texas and surrounded by a supportive family of musicians and music lovers, Tristan cultivated a rich musical education. After two successful terms as the top ranked high school bassoonist in the state, he decided to pursue music as a career. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of William Winstead and continued his Master’s Degree studies at the University of Michigan with Richard Beene. Tristan was Second Bassoon with the Ann Arbor Symphony from 2002 through 2006. He also served as Second Bassoon with the Aspen Festival Orchestra during the summers of 2004 through 2006 as the festival’s bassoon fellow and while there studied with Per Hannevold. Other orchestras Tristan has performed with include the Toledo, Windsor, Michigan Opera Theater and Aspen Chamber Orchestra. He also served as Principal Bassoon on the 2005 Grammy Award winning classical album Songs of Innocence and Experience by William Bolcom, conducted by Leonard Slatkin and recorded with the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra. Tristan was a performing member at the preeminent Marlboro Music Festival during the summers of 2007 through 2009 and performed chamber music with some of the greatest musicians from around the world. He has also attended the Sarasota and Idyllwild Music Festivals.

During the 2010 - 2011 season Tristan performed as the Acting Associate Principal Bassoon for the Cincinnati Symphony.

He enjoys cheesy science fiction movies, writing short fiction, and even tried his hand in the Olympic sport of fencing.
