The 20th Anniversary Colorado Symphony Ball 2013 was a landmark event for Denver’s cultural and philanthropic communities. The event, titled “From Bach… to Rock!” took over classic rock palace The Fillmore Auditorium on Saturday, May 4, for a spectacular event epitomized by elegance and energy. More than 800 Symphony supporters gathered for the celebration, which raised a record $850,000 for the orchestra.
Mayor Michael B. Hancock presented the esteemed Margaret Phipps Award to the Colorado Symphony musicians in one of the evening’s most poignant moments. Concertmaster Yumi Hwang-Williams, Cellist Margaret Hoeppner and Percussionist Terry Smith accepted the Phipps award on behalf of the orchestra, remarking on the extraordinary history of the Symphony and their dedication to continued excellence.
The highlight of the evening was the unforgettable joint performance by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and The Moderators, which kept attendees dancing long into the evening. Afterwards, guests danced late into the night to the electrifying sounds of Argentinean band Extasis. Ed Greene of CBS4 emceed the night’s program. The gala’s “black tie with rock flair” dress code proved an exciting opportunity for guests to dress to nines, and attendees rocked everything from tie-dye tuxedos to evening gowns with leather jackets.
