She and her husband, Gary, (a retired violinist in the orchestra) have a special love of the redrock desert around Moab, Utah. They spend as much time as they can there, hiking and bicycling in and around Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Joanne and Gary especially like tandem bicycling, and enjoy riding the week-long Bicycle Tour of Colorado every June.
They have spent many years restoring their 1890 Victorian house, and as a result Joanne learned to stencil elaborate borders and ceilings and make stained glass windows, among other more practical tasks like plumbing, carpentry, wallboard (ugh!) and electrical work.
She is active in the Major Orchestra Librarians’ Association (MOLA), serving 6 years as its treasurer. MOLA is an international organization with nearly 300 member orchestras. Joanne attends many of the yearly conferences, hosted by a different MOLA member orchestra each year.
