He began violin lessons when he was 7 and studied with Daniel Majeske and David Cerone in high school. He attended Indiana University and the University of Wisconsin, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Laurence Shapiro, and his Masters in Music in 1983, studying with Leonard Sorkin. A top ranking violinist in MTNA Collegiate competition in 1981, he performed complete Paganini Caprices in 1986 in the Denver area. He played in the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, NC from 1994 – 2005 and has several recordings to his credit.

Paul is a co-founder, along with his wife Barbara Hamilton, of the Colorado Chamber Players, which performs approximately 50 concerts annually, mostly in the Denver Metro area. They have also been chamber music and orchestra coaches at the Denver School of the Arts for over five years. Paul has maintained a private teaching studio for many years. Paul taught for two summers at Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park and for seven summers at the Lamont Summer Academy.  His son Joshua is in college, majoring in computer science. His daughter Lily is a high school student at Denver School of the Arts, and has won many local and national awards for her harp playing.
