In summer 2020, the Colorado Symphony will join CineConcerts in live-scoring the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 –  the final chapter in the saga of Harry Potter and friends' harrowing time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Having gained headlines and new fans with its pop and rock collaborations — think The Flaming Lips, Gregory Alan Isakov and Tenacious D — the Colorado Symphony plans to tackle the music of British rock-royalty Queen next year.

Since the Flaming Lips released The Soft Bulletin in 1999, the album has been hailed by some as the band’s masterpiece. But could it have been better if actual orchestral instruments had been used instead of layers of samples and synthesizers? The answer came nearly two decades later, in 2016, when the Flaming Lips teamed up with the Colorado Symphony to perform The Soft Bulletin live in its entirety at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. It was the first time the band played the album live with an orchestra. And, yes, the album took on an entirely new dimension.

You’d never know it just by listening, but for The Flaming Lips’ latest release, the psychedelic rock band dialed down its usual theatrics and focused on the music. The album features the Colorado Symphony and is a stocking-stuffer straight from Red Rocks.

Renée Fleming performs Kevin Puts' "The Brightness of Light" with the Colorado Symphony November 15 and 17. The production tells the story of the love affair between painter Georgia O'Keefe and photographer Alfred Steiglitz. Before the pair of Denver performances, Fleming spoke with Colorado Matters about portraying the "extraordinary" role of O'Keefe and the music that inspired her as a young singer.
