A native of Somerset, Massachusetts and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, Greg Harper began his professional career as Bass Trombone with the Colorado Symphony in 1997 under the baton of Marin Alsop.

Prior to joining the Colorado Symphony, he had developed a freelance career in Houston and taught private students at several local middle and high schools in the Houston metro area. In addition to his responsibilities with the Colorado Symphony, he has toured and recorded with the Minnesota Orchestra as well as performed as guest bass trombonist with the Atlanta, Houston, Montreal, Orquesta Symphonic de Galicia (Spain), Spoleto Music Festival (Italy), and Seattle Symphony Orchestra. As an educator he is currently Instructor of Low Brass at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, CO and has taught at Colorado State University and the University of Colorado at Boulder. As someone who enjoys trombone pedagogy, Greg has presented clinic/masterclasses at the International Trombone Festival, the Troy State University Alabama Brass Symposium, the South Shore Massachusetts Low Brass Symposium, and at both the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Minnesota. Greg has also had the pleasure of being a faculty member of the Fairbanks, Alaska Summer Arts Festival, the Music at the Summit Summer Band Institute in Breckenridge, CO and mostly recently the Idyllwild, CA Summer Arts Academy faculty.

In addition to Trombone, Greg enjoys many hobbies which include custom jewelry design, woodworking, as well as getting out and enjoying the beauty of Colorado with his family and Tibetan Terriers.
