Patrick Tillery

Assistant Principal / Utility Trumpet

Patrick Tillery has been the Associate Principal Trumpet of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra since 1991. He has been a member of the Lone Star Brass Quintet, the Kentucky Arts Brass Quintet, the Colorado Symphony Brass Quintet and the Scioto Brass Quintet.

Mr. Tillery has performed with the Columbus Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, The Dayton Philharmonic, the Louisville Orchestra, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, the Louisville Chamber Orchestra, the Louisville Bach Society, the Midland-Odessa Symphony, Central City Opera, the National Repertory Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute. He has been a member of the Lone Star Brass Quintet, the Kentucky Arts Brass Quintet, the Colorado Symphony Brass Quintet and the Scioto Brass Quintet.

Patrick has recorded on the Naxos, ProArte, Koch Classics, Summit Records, BMG Classics, and First Edition recording labels. As a frequent trumpet clinician along the front range, his teaching experience includes positions at The Ohio State University, the University of Denver, Metropolitan State University, and the University of Northern Colorado. He also has served as the trumpet guest artist at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Fairbanks, Alaska. As a native of Edgewood, Kentucky, Patrick holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Louisville and a Master of Music degree from The Ohio State University. His major teachers were Leon Rapier and Philip Collins.

Aside from playing the trumpet, Patrick enjoys spending time backpacking in Colorado’s beautiful mountains, studying railroad history and model railroading. The latter of which he has published several articles in railroad books and national magazines. Patrick and his wife Kristin live in Littleton with their three children.
