New Colorado Symphony Copland Recording Applauded by Music Web International

Your Colorado Symphony and Music Director Andrew Litton are proud to announce that Copland – Billy the Kid & Rodeo, a project recorded by the Colorado Symphony and BIS Records, received its first major critical acclaim. The recording, made possible in part by a handful of generous special project donors, will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2016.

“Litton leaves his rivals choking in the dust; the same goes for BIS’s exceptional recording. This new Copland collection grows in stature the more one listens to it; I doubt you’ll hear more illuminating or idiomatic accounts of these American classics any time soon… Looking to the future I hope that Litton — recently appointed music director of the New York City Ballet — can be persuaded to record more dance albums with these charismatic Coloradans. Now that would be a treat.””

In this outstanding recording, Litton leads the Colorado Symphony orchestra through the Wild West in Aaron Copland’s iconic ballet scores Billy the Kid and Rodeo. “This is what it takes to put an orchestra on the map,” say’s Litton “This orchestra did such a fantastic job – right from the beginning I knew we had a winner. The result is a fantastic recording that’s already getting great reviews.”

Don’t miss your chance to see Copland conducted by Andrew Litton with the Colorado Symphony April 29 – May 1

Litton leads this wonderfully diverse springtime program, featuring Kirill Gerstein, the only pianist to win the Gilmore Artist Award and the Gilmore Young Artist Award, performing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s iconic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. For the finale, Litton conducts the orchestra in Symphony No. 3, Aaron Copland’s last symphony and the origin of his instantly recognizable, Fanfare for the Common Man. Intended as a patriotic statement, the entire work pulses with Americana.
