Aug. 5, 2024 – Denver, CO – The Colorado Symphony is excited to announce its lineup of Community Education Programs for the upcoming 2024/25 Season. With a commitment to providing high-quality symphonic programming to Coloradans throughout the state, the Colorado Symphony is set to deliver an inspiring array of educational experiences through in-person and virtual performances, bilingual curriculum, and collaborations with local artists and organizations.
“We are thrilled to present our Community Education Programs for the 2024/25 season, continuing our mission to nurture the love of music in the hearts of future generations,” said Mark Cantrell, President & CEO. “These initiatives embody our commitment to engage with our community and enrich the lives of young people through the transformative power of music.”
Breanna McCaughey, Director of Community Education, added, “We believe that music has the power to inspire, educate, and unite. The Colorado Symphony’s Community Education Programs aim to bring people of all ages together and build a lifelong love for the arts.”
The 2024/25 Community Education Season will feature a host of creative programs including:
Destination Denver Youth Concerts
Each year, thousands of students come to Boettcher Concert Hall for a captivating and immersive concert experience, many for the first time. This year’s theme, Destination Denver, will take students on a journey through Denver’s vibrant neighborhoods and explore the diverse musical traditions of the Mile High City. Join the Colorado Symphony and our featured artist collaborators, ArtistiCO Dance Company, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, and rapper Chinelo “Nelo” Tyler, as we take a musical tour of Denver from inside Boettcher Concert Hall.
Mini Música
The beloved children’s tale, The Three Little Pigs, will come to life in the form of “Mini Musica” — an interactive, bilingual story time concert for young audiences. Featuring a 16-piece orchestra and a narrator who dances and sings in English and Spanish, this program is designed to engage young children through a musical telling of a classic children’s story. As part of the Colorado Symphony’s commitment to early childhood education literacy initiatives, each concert attendee will receive a complimentary bilingual storybook at each concert.
Sensory Friendly Concerts
The Colorado Symphony believes strongly in access and inclusion and is committed to providing opportunities for everyone to enjoy the beauty of live orchestral music through our Sensory Friendly program. Sensory Friendly performances are designed to offer a supportive and accommodating environment for those in our community who need a more sensorially relaxed environment to enjoy a performance. Additionally, the relaxed nature of these concerts makes them a perfect fit for families with young children. Complimentary sensory toys are provided onsite.
Open Rehearsals
This season’s concerts feature original collaborations including with Phamaly Theatre Company and Colorado Conservatory of Dance. Complimentary sensory tools are provided at each concert.
To provide high school and collegiate students a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how a professional orchestra prepares for a concert, the Colorado Symphony will host twelve Open Rehearsals throughout the 2024/25 season. This program offers an opportunity to observe the technical and production preparation, hear rehearsal techniques and feedback from a professional conductor, and experience a Colorado Symphony concert in the making.
Musician Visits
Every year, Colorado Symphony musicians travel to schools, libraries, and other venues across Colorado to meaningfully engage with their community. Whether through instrument demonstrations, coaching for band/orchestra/mariachi students, or advising students interested in pursuing a career in performing arts, the Colorado Symphony is here to support in-classroom learning. This program will also be available virtually for the 2024/25 Season.
Free Virtual Concerts & Curriculum
Recognizing the importance of accessibility, the Colorado Symphony will offer a series of free virtual concerts and accompanying educational curriculum for schools and students unable to attend in-person events. These online resources will allow a wider audience to experience the magic of orchestral music from the comfort of their classrooms or homes.
