ANNOUNCING THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS – IN CONCERT

Howard Shore’s GRAMMY®-winning score will be performed live to full film by 238 musicians

Dec. 3, 2025 – Denver, CO – The Colorado Symphony proudly presents The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, In Concert, featuring Academy Award winner Howard Shore’s score performed live to the full feature film. Audiences will journey deeper into Middle-earth as the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Symphony Chorus, and soloists bring Shore’s monumental music to life across three performances on March 27, 28, and 29, 2026 at Boettcher Concert Hall.

Building on the story introduced in The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers continues the epic saga as the Fellowship is fractured and new alliances form. With breathtaking battles, haunting landscapes, and some of the trilogy’s most iconic musical themes — including the ethereal music of Rohan — this second installment remains one of the most beloved and visually spectacular chapters of the trilogy.

Experience the film in high definition on the big screen while 238 musicians fill the hall with Shore’s sweeping score—from the march of the Uruk-hai to the legendary Battle of Helm’s Deep. Few cinematic moments rival the emotional force of this score performed live.

Howard Shore’s music for The Two Towers expanded the sonic world of Middle-earth, introducing new cultures, motifs, and choral writing that have become cornerstones of the trilogy’s musical identity. Shore’s work across the three films earned widespread acclaim, contributing to the series’ 17 Academy Awards and cementing The Lord of the Rings as one of the most celebrated film trilogies of all time.

Doug Adams, author of the comprehensive book The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films and advisor to this In Concert presentation said, “The Lord of the Rings is a story of universal human themes and experiences, including perseverance, sacrifice, friendship, and loyalty. These were the backbone of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, of Peter Jackson’s films and, of course, of Howard Shore’s music.

These live performances place the score in the spotlight, and create a wholly new and unique audience experience. Even the most ardent fans are amazed at how completely Shore recreates Middle-earth in music – and how the live score provides narrative clarity, structural complexity, and above all, a living heart to the story. There’s nothing quite like it. This is an extraordinarily moving communal experience. It’s our chance to join the Fellowship.
