Colorado Symphony and Colorado Ballet Collaborate On Bernstein’s Facsimile

Colorado Symphony concertgoers will experience a taste of the theater this January when the orchestra performs Leonard Bernstein’s Facsimile January 24-26 at Boettcher Concert Hall.

Facsimile, the second ballet by Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins, was commissioned by the American Ballet Theatre, and the music was composed by Bernstein in the three weeks between the close of the 1946 season at Tanglewood and the opening of the New York City Symphony season. The ballet depicts “three insecure people”, two men and a woman, who are involved in a tumultuous love triangle and are desperately and vainly searching for real interpersonal relationships.

Joining the Colorado Symphony and Music Director Brett Mitchell will be dancers from Colorado Ballet, making for a special weekend of performances that will resonate with audiences of all ages.

“We’re thrilled to join in this collaboration with Colorado Ballet,” said Anthony Pierce, Chief Artistic Officer for the Colorado Symphony. “Leonard Bernstein is a musical icon, and to combine his music from Facsimile with the incredible artistry of these dancers makes for an experience that will be breathtaking to behold.”

Here is a behind the scenes look at Colorado Ballet’s preparations for Facsimile.

“We are honored to partner with the Colorado Symphony for this special performance of Bernstein’s Facsimile,” stated Colorado Ballet Artistic Director Gil Boggs. “Bernstein’s score is genius and our Academy Principal and former Principal Dancer Domenico Luciano is creating new choreography for this beloved classic that will highlight the music. Our dancers couldn’t be more excited to perform on stage in Boettcher Concert Hall with the orchestra, and we are grateful to the symphony for this opportunity to collaborate.”

Tickets are available online, by phone at 303.623.7876, and in person at the Boettcher Concert Hall Box Office, Denver Performing Arts Complex, 1000 14th Street. The Box Office is open Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday, noon – 6 p.m.; and two hours prior to each performance.
