The Colorado Symphony announces the winner of the prestigious Margaret Phipps Award to be presented at the Colorado Symphony Ball on April 23, 2016. The annual award recognizes a person or institution for their longstanding contributions and service to the Colorado Symphony and the arts community.
Congratulations to Liberty Global and Mike & Michelle Fries, 2016 Margaret Phipps Award Recipients
Liberty Global has been a committed partner of the Colorado Symphony through philanthropic giving and dedicated involvement. Liberty Global’s support has directly contributed to the Colorado Symphony’s continued success. The Margaret Phipps Award will be presented to Liberty Global and CEO Mike Fries and Michelle Fries.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike and Michelle Fries have long served Colorado as business and community leaders, helping the state to further develop economically, socially, and culturally.
Mr. Fries is CEO of Liberty Global, the world’s largest cable television company headquartered here in Denver with operations in 14 countries and revenue of $18 billion. He has helped found and build the company over the last 25 years and has always been committed to culture and the arts in Colorado, among other causes. In addition to spearheading a long-term corporate partnership between the Colorado Symphony and Liberty Global, he has made significant personal contributions along the way, including as lead singer of the Moderators which has performed twice at the Colorado Symphony Ball.
Mr. Fries chairs or sits on the board of many charitable organizations in Denver including the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Biennial of the Americas, Teach for America, The Cable Center, Colorado Academy, and the Alliance for Choice in Education (ACE Scholarships).
Mrs. Fries is a Florida native who spent a decade studying and working abroad before landing in New York as a senior executive for IMG, the global leader in sports, media and fashion. She sits on the board of Denver’s Museum of Contemporary Art and is passionate about addressing homelessness and supporting our veterans.

The Colorado Symphony Ball brings more than 1,000 individuals, government officials, and corporate representatives to celebrate and raise funds for the Colorado Symphony. Last year’s Ball raised more than $1 million for the organization.
