“The Colorado Symphony offers music that sparks your imagination. music that speaks to your heart and music that moves you. Their opening weekend for the 103rd season is coming up this Friday. Starting our with Beethoven, talk to us about the details of this program, and why did you choose Beethoven?”
Oundjian: “Well, you know, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony is one of the most important pieces of music, really that was ever created, and it’s such an inspiration. Especially right now, I thnk we live in a world where we really need to feel a sense of hope and liberty. And those are really the themes of Symphony 8 and 9. So it’s an exquisite experience with the wonderful choir in the last movement. We’re also doing a really interesting piece by a Mexican composer, Gabriela Ortiz. (…) This piece was written about 7 or 8 years ago to go with the 9th Symphony because, again, it’s about immigration and it’s fabulous.”
