COLORADO SYMPHONY TO UNVEIL ENHANCED FOUR SCREEN EXPERIENCE FOR 2019/20 MOVIE AT THE SYMPHONY CONCERTS
In conjunction with Denver Arts & Venues, additional screens and prominent placement will enhance audience viewing experience
Oct. 4, 2019 – Denver, CO – The Colorado Symphony will unveil a new four screen visual experience for their Movie at the Symphony performances during the 2019/20 season. The upgraded screen setup, which was made possible through collaboration with Denver Arts & Venues, puts four screens directly over the Boettcher Concert Hall stage, giving every patron seated throughout the theatre in the round an incredible, theatrical experience.
The four screens are 20 ft. x 12 ft. and are centrally located over the musicians on stage, allowing patrons to watch the screens and see the orchestra simultaneously without having to move their head. For previous Movie at the Symphony events, three smaller screens were positioned within the house, above patron seating which obstructed the view in some seating areas and made it difficult to see the orchestra and watch the film at the same time.
“This enhanced four screen setup is a game changer for our Movie at the Symphony concerts,” said Tony Pierce, Chief Artistic Officer. “The visual experience looks incredible throughout the hall as this allows us to fully take advantage of Boettcher Concert Hall’s in-the-round design. There won’t be a bad seat in the house!”
The previous screen setup limited the usable seats in Boettcher Concert Hall to around 1600. The new four screen setup will provide incredible viewing angles from nearly all of the over 2,700 seats within Boettcher Concert Hall.
“Boettcher Concert Hall has been difficult to adapt to the emerging technologies within the symphonic world,” said Jerome H. Kern, CEO and Chair of the Board of Trustees. “We took the feedback of our patrons from previous performances to heart in pushing for this new model that will enhance the Movie at the Symphony experience for years to come.”
The four screen setup will make its debut October 11, 2019 when the Colorado Symphony screens and performs the score to the 1985 cult classic, The Goonies. Additional film concerts in 2019 include Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (November 1 & 2), Home Alone (November 29), Love Actually (December 6). In addition, 2020 will include screenings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ (January 3-5), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (February 27-29), and Disney’s Fantasia (March 28 & 29).
Tickets for these concerts are available online at coloradosymphony.org/tickets, by phone at 303.623.7876, and in person at the Boettcher Concert Hall Box Office, Denver Performing Arts Complex, 1000 14th Street.
