Denver weighs naming rights deal to fund $122M Boettcher Concert Hall renovation

A nearly five-decade-old Denver concert hall that is home to the Colorado Symphony could be poised for a $122 million renovation — first time since it opened — as city officials consider a funding plan that includes selling naming rights to the building.

Denver Arts & Venues, which operates major city cultural facilities including Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Denver Performing Arts Complex, is asking the Denver City Council to approve a funding agreement with the Colorado Symphony Association that would give the organization the ability to solicit naming rights for the building and certain interior spaces at Boettcher Concert Hall in downtown.

Denver Arts & Venues has already received $20 million in Vibrant Bond funding, along with other funding sources, including $16.8 million previously appropriated by the city, $5.3 million from a 2024 Facilities Development Admission tax appropriation and about $64.9 million from Denver Arts & Venues capital funds.

The facility’s acoustics will be upgraded, a new education center installed, HVAC and safety systems improved, and more efficient LED lighting added. The project will also include stage-area improvements, more accessible seating and other modernization efforts.

The changes to the hall would reduce its seating capacity from 2,600 seats to around 2,000.

To help reach that $15 million goal, the organization would be allowed to market naming rights for the building and selected interior assets such as the box office, coat check area, libraries, staircases, events rooms, musicians’ lounges, stages, lobby areas and seats and seating sections. CSA would begin selling the naming rights in the fourth quarter of 2026 if Denver City Council signs off on the deal.

The Boettcher name, however, would not disappear entirely. The Boettcher Foundation has agreed to allow the building name to be sold while preserving the name “Boettcher Concert Hall” for the performance hall itself in perpetuity.
