Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony Album
Released Today, Receives National Critical Acclaim

June 10, 2016 – Denver, CO – The album Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony was released today, available for purchase at gregoryalanisakov.com/. A collaboration with the Colorado Symphony, the eleven-track record features songs from Isakov’s previous albums, The Weatherman, This Empty Northern Hemisphere, and That Sea, the Gambler, as well as “Liars,” which was written by Ron Scott.

Recorded at Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver, as well as at Starling Farm in Boulder, Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony was co-produced by Isakov and his longtime collaborator, Jamie Mefford, and was arranged by Tom Hagerman (DeVotchKa) and Jay Clifford (Jump Little Children), and conducted by the Colorado Symphony’s Scott O’Neil.

“This has been a wonderful and seamless collaboration with Gregory and the Symphony,” says Anthony Pierce, Colorado Symphony Senior Vice President, Program Innovation. “After performing together multiple times, this album beautifully displays what the orchestra can contribute, as well as Gregory’s unique style.”

Already receiving critical attention, NPR Music recently premiered the official music video for “Liars,” praising, “Stunning imagery and a symphony of sound make this Gregory Alan Isakov video an emotionally charged and poignant musical statement.” The video can now be viewed/shared via YouTube.

A new interview with Gregory Alan Isakov aired this week on NPR “Weekend Edition Sunday.” Listen to the full conversation with host Rachel Martin here. Additionally, as part of a recent profile, T Magazine premiered a new version of Isakov’s beloved song “Big Black Car” and spoke with the acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer about his love of horticulture and his Colorado farm. Read the full story here. The collaboration has also been featured in the New York TimesThe Wall Street Journal, and more.

In celebration of the release, Isakov will embark on an extensive orchestral tour this spring and summer, including performances with various orchestras around the country. Many of the concerts will feature Isakov and his band—Jeb Bows (fiddle), Philip Parker (cello), Steve Varney (electric guitar/banjo), John Grigsby (upright bass), and Max Barcelow (drums)—along with The Ghost Orchestra from Colorado (a symphonic ensemble featuring brass and string players, that includes members of the Colorado Symphony).

The new album follows Isakov’s highly acclaimed 2013 release, The Weatherman, which debuted at #1 on iTunes’ Singer/Songwriter chart and received widespread acclaim including critical notice at NPR’s Weekend EditionNPR MusicEsquireRolling StoneThe Boston Globe, etc. Of the music, Denver Westword proclaimed, “Bob Dylan once sang, ‘You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows,’ and you don’t need to be a singer-songwriter to realize that Isakov has created something truly stunning here.”

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and now calling Colorado home, Isakov is a lifelong traveler. Since his debut, Isakov has toured alongside musicians such as Iron & Wine, Ani DiFranco, Passenger, Josh Ritter, Brandi Carlile, and Nathaniel Rateliff. With a degree in horticulture, Isakov balances the art of making and performing his music with running a small farm in Colorado.
