Your reporter in Denver has learned that Colorado Symphony believes it’s sercured the final piece of funding to move forward with a massive renovation.
Wachter: “I mean, this has been America’s first in-the-round symphonic venue. The venue stands out as a first of its kind. 48 years later however, the technology is different. It’s time for some major upgrades, from acoustics to accessibility to the chairs, which many will be happy to hear are getting replaced.
The city of Denver and the Colorado Symphony have an agreement in place to fund the renovations. The Symphony is responsible for poviding $15 million, which it placs to do so by selling the naming rights, while the inside will remain Boettcher Concert Hall.
Wachter: “We have the opportunity to market naming rights for the building, for the stage, for the front of the house, for the donor lounge, and for the education center.”
And the Symphony feels confident they’ll be able to raise the funds.
Wachter: “We have made a study through a third party to gain understanding about economic value of naming rights, and the study gave us a good level of confidence about the value.”
But there’s still time before construction begins. It’s slated to start in 2028 and finish in August of 2029. 20 years to prepare for such a massive undertaking is not a lot of time, so the renovation itself needs to be prepared, and those who call it home have high hopes for what the venue will become.
