Augustin Hadelich Brings World-Class Virtuosity to Colorado Symphony Season Finale

When the Colorado Symphony closes its 2024/25 Season with Tchaikovsky’s towering Violin Concerto from May 30–June 1, audiences at Boettcher Concert Hall will be treated to more than just a brilliant finale; they’ll witness one of the greatest violinists of our time in action. Augustin Hadelich, a name synonymous with interpretive depth and technical mastery, returns to Denver as the featured soloist, bringing his singular artistry to one of the most beloved works in the violin repertoire.

A Performer in a League of His Own

In today’s crowded field of elite violinists, Augustin Hadelich stands out for reasons that go beyond flawless technique. Yes, his tone is luminous, his intonation impeccable, and his bow control second to none, but it’s his emotional honesty and musical insight that consistently place him at the top for critics’ and audiences’ lists alike. Whether he’s performing Bach, Beethoven, Bartók, or Tchaikovsky, Hadelich offers more than a performance; he offers an experience that feels personal, immediate, and deeply human.

His interpretation of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto promises to be no different. A piece that blends unbridled passion with elegance and lyricism, it’s a perfect match for Hadelich’s expressive range. Expect moments of intensity, introspection, and virtuosity, all held together by the violinist’s signature clarity and narrative instinct.

A Triumph of Resilience and Artistry

Hadelich’s journey to international acclaim is as inspiring as his performances. Born in Italy to German parents, he overcame severe burn injuries in his teens that nearly ended his career before it began. That spirit of resilience still echoes in his playing, which often carries a kind of inner strength and sincerity rarely heard on today’s concert stages.

Since winning the Gold Medal at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 2006, Hadelich has performed with the world’s foremost orchestras and conductors, earning a GRAMMY Award and consistent praise for his compelling musicianship. Further distinctions followed, including an Avery Fisher Career Grant (2009), U.K.’s Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship (2011), and an honorary doctorate from the University of Exeter in the U. K. (2017). In 2018, he was named “Instrumentalist of the Year” by the influential magazine Musical America. His recent recordings, especially his acclaimed take on Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas and his visionary take on Paganini’s Caprices continue to draw global recognition for their originality and emotional nuance.

A Grand Season Finale

The Colorado Symphony’s season finale program, under the baton of Peter Oundjian, will showcase not only Hadelich’s spellbinding solo performance, but also the orchestra’s full power and finesse. Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto is a showpiece for both soloist and ensemble – a thrilling culmination to a season marked by innovation, artistry, and connection.

For longtime symphonygoers and first-time attendees alike, this is a rare chance to hear a master at the height of his powers in a work that demands – and rewards – everything an artist has to give.
