Music Activities in Denver for Kids

Introducing your kids or grandkids to music at an early age helps them learn, keeps them moving, and helps them develop creative thinking skills. The key to getting them interested and keeping their interest piqued is to find something fun and appropriate for their age group they can relate to.

The benefits of introducing music in early childhood include helping kids of all ages improve motor and communication skills. Music helps children calm down, lets them openly express emotions, and allows free interactions with others.

Some may think children are too young to be exposed to symphony orchestra performances. The Colorado Symphony offers many activities in Denver for kids, including concerts, movies, and events that will encourage your child to appreciate having music in their lives.

Family-Friendly Events

Family-Friendly Concerts

The Colorado Symphony offers concert events that are fun for kids and parents alike. These family-friendly concerts are shorter than a traditional performance to keep little ones engaged. Family concerts vary each season, but you can treat your music lovers to events like Intergalactic Symphony Spectacular as the orchestra ventures through space with selections from John WilliamsOr you can introduce your little ones to the orchestra with the Carnival of the Animals – astage safari that showcases animals from the Denver Zoo as the orchestra plays one of Camille Saint-Saëns’ most famous works. Children and family members can enjoy several performances, all geared for family fun and education. All ages are welcome to enjoy these family-friendly concerts.

Movies at the Symphony

You may never have thought about a movie night at Boettcher Concert Hall, but the Colorado Symphony offers several selections with family-friendly movies shown on large suspended screens and accompanied by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Choose family favorites such as Home Alone, Elf, Harry Potter, and many others. Movies at home may never be the same!

Petite Musique for 0-7 years

Designed for children 0-7 years of age, Petite Musique is a bilingual, interactive program that appears at various venues around Denver. A bilingual narrator accompanies a 16-piece orchestra combining storytelling, singing, and dance in English and Spanish. Experience different storybook favorites each season like The Three Little Pigs or The Story of Peter Rabbit. Young children can learn about the different instruments and be entertained with music and a story without language barriers.

Canta y Baila Conmigo Bilingual Concerts for kids

The Canta y Baila Conmigo program offers classes as an opportunity for kids and their families to experience the Spanish culture, including the language and the music. It is structured to introduce it to children in a way that they can understand through play and interactions with their families. By making the experience fun and loving, children are encouraged to learn and respect other cultures.

Youth Concerts for Grades 3-12

The Colorado Symphony also offers affordable concerts for youths in grades 3-12. Combining education with the fun of music and culture, children can have a musical experience they will remember for years. Can’t make it to the concerts? We also have free virtual concerts so everyone can enjoy them!

Family Series Halfnotes

In the Bach Room at the Boettcher Concert Hall, your children will have fun before the family and family-friendly concerts scheduled at the hall. These activities help prepare your kids for the concert by offering concert-related crafts to excite and interest them. You can view all Halfnotes concerts for the season here.

Virtual Youth Concerts with the Colorado Symphony
