Open Rehearsal FAQs

An Open Rehearsal is a unique opportunity to observe the Colorado Symphony as they prepare for an upcoming performance. Attendees witness real-time rehearsal techniques, conductor feedback, and segments of concert repertoire—offering a behind-the-scenes look at the professional music-making process.

Open Rehearsals are open to high school and university students, and educators.  Individuals 14 and older only. Exceptions may be made for well-behaved younger students, such as middle school band or orchestra members. Please contact CEILearning@ColoradoSymphony.org if you have questions.

For Collegiate Open Rehearsals, attendees will be required to show university identification, either a university ID or class schedule. Individuals 18-years or older only, anyone younger will be denied entry.

Rehearsals typically last between two and two and a half hours, although they can vary. A 20-minute break typically occurs around the 60-90-minute mark, during which time attendees may use the restroom or leave early if needed. The conductor decides the time at which the break is taken, and when rehearsal ends so, please await their cue to exit the hall.

Possibly! Some conductors and musicians enjoy engaging with the audience during rehearsal, while others focus solely on the music. Either way, your presence is valued and appreciated—even if it’s not directly acknowledged.

Not necessarily. Rehearsals focus on sections of the repertoire that require refinement, so the order and content of music may vary. The full concert experience is reserved for ticketed performances.

Guest artists may or may not appear at Open Rehearsals, depending on the day’s rehearsal schedule. Their appearance is not guaranteed.

Yes, Q&A sessions and backstage tours are available by request and subject to availability. These experiences may be modified or canceled due to scheduling needs or unforeseen circumstances.

You will receive a confirmation email the same week you submit your reservation request.

Additional reminder emails will be sent:

• 1 month prior to your scheduled Open Rehearsal
• 2 weeks prior (Final attendance confirmation & payment due. Those who cancel their order after this point will incur a fee per our Cancellation Policy.)
• 1 week prior to the event

Tickets are $7.50 per person, including students, teachers, and chaperones unless otherwise noted.

Financial aid is available and awarded based on your school’s Free & Reduced Lunch (FRL) percentage. Be sure to provide accurate FRL information on your reservation form.

Due to high demand and attrition rates, school groups must finalize attendance and pay for their order no later than 2 weeks prior to the event. Any school that cancels after that point may be charged a $50 Cancellation Fee, regardless of financial aid status.

Unfortunately, no. Attendance numbers are finalized two weeks before the concert, and refunds are not issued after payment has been received.

Yes. If your group cannot attend due to weather, transportation issues, or other unavoidable events, we’re happy to help. Based on availability, we can reschedule your visit or issue a refund. Please contact the Box Office as soon as possible.

SCHOOLS ARRIVING BY BUS

School buses should follow the directions in the Welcome Packet. Please confirm these details with your transportation provider.

Drop Off: 1000 14th, Denver, CO 80202

Pick Up: 1736 Speer Blvd #1848, Denver, CO 80204

*For schools arriving by bus with teachers driving, please ensure this is communicated no later than 1 month prior to the concert. The Colorado Symphony team will work with the City of Denver to reserve parking meters along Champa Street.

Cars/Vans: Cars/vans should park in the Denver Performing Arts Complex garage.

Light Rail: take the D, F, or H line to the Theatre District/Convention Center stop. Walk two blocks west on 14th Street, then turn left into the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Boettcher Concert Hall is at the southwest end.

We recommend arriving 30 minutes before the Open Rehearsal start time to allow time for parking, check-in, and seating. Please factor in additional time for traffic and unloading.

Seating is assigned based on group size. Special seating requests are not accepted, but accessible seating is available. Please contact us in advance if accessible seating is needed.

We ask that attendees arrive on time and stay for the duration of the rehearsal when possible. However, if you must leave early, please wait until the scheduled break to avoid disrupting the musicians. We do not allow groups to arrive late.

As this is a professional, working rehearsal, we would like to keep disturbances to a minimum. Plan to use the restroom before the rehearsal starts, during the break, or after the rehearsal ends.  A 20-minute break typically occurs around the 60-90-minute mark, during which time attendees may use the restroom.

Attendees are expected to remain quiet, attentive, and respectful. Disruptive behavior—including talking, cell phone use, or frequent movement in and out of the hall—may result in removal without refund. Additionally, eating and drinking inside the hall is prohibited. Please help your students maintain a professional and focused atmosphere.

OPEN REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE POLICY

No photography, video recording, or audio recording is allowed during the rehearsal to maintain a respectful and distraction-free environment for the musicians.
