Open Rehearsals
About Open Rehearsals
Open Rehearsals with the Colorado Symphony offer students and educators a unique educational experience—an insider’s look at how a professional orchestra prepares for performance. Designed for high school and university students, these sessions provide a rare opportunity to observe musicians at work as they collaborate, refine repertoire, and receive direction from world-class conductors.
Throughout the rehearsal, students gain insight into the artistic process, rehearsal techniques, and the discipline behind professional music-making. To further enrich the experience, a post-rehearsal 30-minute Q&A session or a guided backstage tour may be offered.
Perfect for music classes, ensembles, or any student curious about the performing arts, Open Rehearsals connect classroom learning with real-world artistry.
By reserving seats for a Colorado Symphony Open Rehearsal, you agree to and acknowledge:
Age Restrictions
Open Rehearsals are for individuals 14 years and older who are studying or have a deep interest in classical music. Individuals under the age of 14 will be turned away. Exceptions may be made for younger students—typically middle school band or orchestra members—who can remain attentive and respectful throughout the rehearsal. If you are unsure whether your group meets the age requirement, please contact us at communityeducation@coloradosymphony.org before submitting a reservation request.
Behavioral Expectations
To maintain a focused and respectful environment, all attendees must follow these guidelines during the rehearsal:
-
Remain quiet and attentive throughout the rehearsal
-
Refrain from talking, using cell phones, or engaging in disruptive behavior
-
Eating and drinking inside the hall is prohibited
-
Limit entering and exiting the hall during the rehearsal
A 20-minute break will occur approximately 90 minutes into the rehearsal. You are welcome to use this time to visit the restroom or leave the hall early if needed.
Please Note: The Colorado Symphony reserves the right to ask individuals or groups to leave if behavioral expectations are not met. No refunds will be issued in such cases.
Audience Interaction
Each conductor, musician, and guest artist brings a unique personality to the rehearsal. Some enjoy engaging with the audience, while others prefer to focus quietly on the work at hand. While interaction is never guaranteed, please know that your presence is appreciated—even if it’s not directly acknowledged. Rehearsal time is dedicated to preparation, and every moment is valuable.
Scheduled Repertoire
Please note that all repertoire and the order of rehearsal are subject to change. The focus of each rehearsal is determined by the needs of the musicians and conductor as they prepare for upcoming performances.
Guest Artists
Guest artists may or may not be present at Open Rehearsals, depending on the rehearsal schedule and their role in the program. Their participation is not guaranteed.
Q&A sessions and backstage tours are offered based on availability and are subject to change. These experiences may be modified or canceled due to scheduling needs or unforeseen circumstances. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility.
