Colorado Symphony and CU Anschutz Unite for Never Dream Alone Campaign

The Colorado Symphony is proud to have partnered with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus on Never Dream Alone, the centerpiece of CU Anschutz’s new “Next Wave” advertising campaign. The project brought together two of Colorado’s leading institutions — one dedicated to healing through medicine, the other through music — to highlight the transformative power of collaboration.

Filmed in Boettcher Concert Hall, the campaign features 45 Colorado Symphony musicians performing a score by BAFTA-winning composer and Denver native Austin Wintory. The music begins with a single, driving cello line performed by Principal Cellist Seoyoen Min, which gradually expands as the full orchestra joins in, underscoring the campaign’s theme: a single idea can spark a wave of innovation, much like a single musical voice can grow into something far greater when supported by the collective.

“The music mirrors what we do every week on stage, taking individual voices and blending them into something much bigger than ourselves.”

“It was a special experience to represent the orchestra in this way,” said Min, who is featured prominently in the campaign. “The music mirrors what we do every week on stage, taking individual voices and blending them into something much bigger than ourselves. To see that message connected with CU Anschutz’s work in science and healing was very meaningful.”

The day-long filming session at Boettcher was unlike a traditional concert. Cameras tracked between musicians, circled the stage, and zoomed in close to capture the energy, focus, and artistry of the performance. For many in the orchestra, it was both a challenge and a thrill to adapt to the new setting.

Resident Conductor Christopher Dragon, who also appears in the commercial, reflected on the unique atmosphere in the hall:

“Spending an entire day filming at Boettcher with cameras everywhere was definitely different than stepping onstage for a concert,” Dragon said. “But it was also exciting. The film crew worked to capture the intensity and precision of what we do, and I think the final product shows that sense of commitment we bring to every performance.”

CU Anschutz’s campaign highlights breakthroughs in fields ranging from autoimmune neurology and vision restoration to gene therapy and mental health. By pairing these stories with the sound and presence of the Colorado Symphony, the campaign draws a parallel between scientific discovery and artistic creation, both requiring dedication, collaboration, and vision.

Colorado Symphony President & CEO Daniel Wachter noted that the partnership was a natural fit:

“We are honored to be part of CU Anschutz’s Never Dream Alone campaign, which so beautifully reflects the values we hold at the Colorado Symphony,” said Wachter. “Just as music comes alive when musicians unite in harmony, healing and discovery flourish when people and institutions come together in collaboration. Partnering with CU Anschutz allows us to demonstrate that both medicine and music share a common purpose: to inspire, to heal and to make our community stronger.”

The Never Dream Alone campaign launched September 8, 2025, and will run across broadcast, digital, and social media platforms this fall. For the Symphony, it represents not only a unique creative opportunity but also a chance to share the artistry of its musicians with new audiences across Colorado and beyond.
